Pena Branca & Xavantinho

Pena Branca e Xavantinho were probably one of the most artistic and first duos from the modern “caipira” (hillbilly) world. These were also innovative by including within their repertory items by metropolitan composers like Djavan, Caetano Veloso, and Milton Nascimento. The grade of their interpretations was recognized by performers like Milton Nascimento, Fagner, Almir Sater, Tião Carreiro, and Renato Teixeira. They received four Prêmio Clear honours and an APCA. In 1993, their achievement took these to worldwide shows in the U.S. Both brothers began to sing jointly in 1961 on Rádio Educadora (Uberlândia, Minas Gerais). Six years afterwards, Xavantinho transferred to São Paulo, discovered accommodations and, by notice, requested his brother’s existence one year afterwards. In 1980, these were noticed by Renato Teixeira, who organized to allow them to record their initial LP, Velha Morada, that same calendar year. Still in 1980, they experienced Xavantinho’s “Que Terreiro É Esse?” on Television Globo’s MPB Shell Festival. Their primary interpretation of Milton Nascimento/Chico Buarque’s “O Cio da Terra” (also included on that record) made nationwide achievement in 1981 on Rolando Boldrin’s Television show Som Brasil. Decidedly involved with a rootsy conception of function, they received the support of many performers like Nascimento, who performed with them on Som Brasil in 1982, on it Globo particular Chico & Caetano and, in 1995, on the Teatro Municipal (Rio de Janeiro), when Nascimento was paid tribute on the night time from the Prêmio Clear prize. In 1987, their LP O Cio da Terra acquired the involvement of Nascimento, Tavinho Moura, and Marcus Viana, offering 300,000 copies. In 1991, these were honored with three Prêmios Clear (Greatest Duo, Best Melody for “Casa de Barro” by Xavantinho/Moniz, and Greatest Record for Cantadô de Mundo Afora). Another calendar year, Renato Teixeira & Pena Branca e Xavantinho had been awarded using a Prêmio Clear and by the Association of Artwork Critics of São Paulo (APCA), in 1999 achieving the cipher of 100,000 copies marketed. The duo continuing to execute and record jointly until Xavantinho’s demise in Oct 1999. Pena Branca continued their are a solo musician.
