Pearl & the Beard

Mixing folk, gospel, pop, and Americana, eclectic Brooklyn-based trio Pearl & the Beard shaped in the past due 2000s around multi-instrumentalists Jeremy Designs, Jocelyn Mackenzie, and Emily Wish Price. Using an arsenal that included glockenspiel, electric guitar, cello, accordion, melodica, and pitch-perfect three-part harmonies, the band’s skilled and soulful make of acoustic artwork pop has attracted comparisons to performers like Andrew Parrot, Beirut, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and the reduced Anthem. Pearl & the Beard released several EPs before launching their full-length debut, God Bless Your Weary Spirit, Amanda Richardson, in ’09 2009. The Dark Vessel EP found its way to 2010, implemented in 2011 with the group’s sophomore LP, Getting rid of the Darlings. After some delays, including period off for Cost to try out cello in the pit orchestra for Sting’s 2014 Broadway musical THE FINAL Dispatch, the band’s third and last full-length record, Beast, premiered in July 2015. Citing differing ambitions, Pearl & the Beard announced that summertime that they might disband after playing a farewell present in NEW YORK on November 19, 2015. The next season, three of their existing tracks were highlighted in the Sally Field film Hello, I AM Doris.
