Mixing minimal techno’s fondness for repetition using a playful approach up to date by the tests of Pierre Henry and Matmos, Brooklyn’s Pearl Necklace may be the task of Bryce Hackford and Frank Lyon. During the period of a calendar year, the duo extracted examples from found noises, Ingmar Bergman movies, collection music, and classic disco albums, merging them with live instrumentation into densely textured monitors. They collaborated with MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarten and Arp’s Alexis Georgopoulos, who presented Pearl Necklace towards the Norwegian digital imprint Smalltown Supersound. The label released the duo’s debut record, Soft Starting, in Feb 2013.
