Paul Smith

Paul Smith was an excellent pianist with technique on the amount of an Oscar Peterson, but a musician who hardly ever really dedicated himself to jazz. After playing in early stages with Johnny Richards in 1941 and spending a few years within the armed service, he caused Les Paul (1946-1947) and Tommy Dorsey (1947-1949) before shifting to LA and learning to be a studio room musician. Smith documented frequently both along with his trios so when a soloist. Furthermore to documenting with Dizzy Gillespie, Anita O’Day, Friend DeFranco, Louie Bellson, Steve Allen, Louie Bellson, and Stan Kenton (amongst others), he toured with Ella Fitzgerald on / off during 1956-1978. Smith passed away in Torrance, California on June 29, 2013 at age 91.
