A talented multi-instrumentalist, Paul McCandless is best-known for his longtime association with Oregon as well as for the floating and meditative noises that he achieves away from his unusual mix of musical instruments. McCandless performed in Paul Winter’s music group the wintertime Consort (1968-1973) and (with Ralph Towner, Glen Moore, and Collin Walcott) he still left the group to create Oregon. McCandless is certainly primarily connected with Oregon (that was operating on the part-time basis within the 1990s), although he in addition has played and documented with Gallery and Eberhard Weber and it has led periods of his very own for Elektra, Landslide, and Windham Hill.
