Biography
Vocalist/songwriter and tempo guitarist Paul Kantner was a founding person in Jefferson Aircraft and Jefferson Starship. Kantner was the initial person contacted by vocalist Marty Balin about piecing together a folk-rock group within the mid-’60s within the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bay Region. Jefferson Aircraft was one of the primary and probably the most commercially effective from the San Francisco acid solution rock psychedelic sets of the ’60s. The group begun to fragment by the end from the 10 years, and Kantner released a single record, Blows Contrary to the Empire, in 1970. It had been accompanied by a duo record along with his partner, Aircraft lead singer Sophistication Slick, Sunfighter, in 1971, along with a trio record, Baron Vol Tollbooth & the Stainless Nun, with Slick and David Freiberg (who acquired replaced Balin within the Aircraft) in 1973. Kantner and Slick reorganized the Aircraft beneath the name Jefferson Starship in 1974. Kantner released another solo record, Planet Earth Stone Orchestra, in 1983, and still left Jefferson Starship in 1984, and the band’s name was truncated to Starship. Kantner after that released the KBC Music group. In 1989, he was an associate of the re-formed edition of Jefferson Aircraft, and from the ’90s, he toured a fresh model of Jefferson Starship, which steadily became a Kantner family members band with the 21st hundred years. That lineup released an record in 2008 entitled Jefferson’s Tree of Liberty, also offering contributions from relatives and buddies including Sophistication Slick, Marty Balin, David Freiberg, Cathy Richardson, Slick Aguilar, and Prairie Prince. On January 28, 2016, Kantner passed away of multiple body organ failure in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA at age 74 (coincidentally on a single day, with the same age group, as initial Jefferson Aircraft vocalist Signe Anderson, who predated Elegance Slick within the band).
