Biography
It is possible to separate Paul Bascomb’s profession into two, for he was a high soloist with Erskine Hawkins’ golf swing orchestra and down the road recorded a favorite group of early tempo & blues information. The sibling of trumpeter Dud Bascomb (another celebrity from the Hawkins music group), the tenorman was among the founding people from the ‘Bama Condition Collegians (which ultimately became the Erskine Hawkins big music group) in the first ’30s and, aside from an interval in 1938-1939 when he changed the past due Herschel Evans with Count number Basie’s orchestra, he was with Hawkins until 1944. Bascomb co-led organizations with Dud (1944-1947) and in the first ’50s recorded thoroughly for the United label; the available performances have already been partly reissued by Delmark. Paul Bascomb was energetic (if maintaining a minimal profile) in to the mid-’80s.
