Patrick Zimmerli


Even in senior high school, tenor saxophonist Patrick Zimmerli was receiving accolades and awards for his jazz taking part in. Nevertheless, in early 2000, he had not been mixed up in jazz picture, nor was he playing very much horn. Rather, he was devoting himself to traditional composition. It had been like a composer, in the end, that Zimmerli received his highest honor; he received the very first annual BMI/Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Composers Competition in 1993. Like a jazz participant, Zimmerli spent some time working with Kevin Hays, Expenses Stewart, and Don Sickler, amongst others. In 1995, he led a quintet known as the Jazz Ambassadors, which documented a self-titled recording and toured South and East Africa. Immediately after, he required on the “visitor composer” part with a fresh York-based, musician-run nonprofit organization known as the Jazz Composers Collective, which commissioned him to create Twelve Sacred Dances, eventually released like a Compact disc by Arabesque in 1998. The Patrick Zimmerli Outfit released its debut documenting, Explosion, in 1997. A Compact disc titled Growth was forthcoming in June of 2000. For a while Zimmerli kept a faculty placement at his alma mater, Columbia University or college, but he offers since remaining academia. Like a traditional composer, he offers created for and performed with Speculum Musicae as well as the Riverside Symphony. A Zimmerli piano concerto offering Ethan Iverson with Metamorphosen was performed in Boston in early 2000. Additional Zimmerli pieces have already been performed from the Belgian ensemble Octurn as well as the People from france jazz group Kartet.
