Patrick Watson

Though he was created in California, Canadian singer and pianist Patrick Watson grew up outside Montreal, in Hudson, Quebec, singing in local church choirs like a son, studying jazz and classical piano performance, composition, and arrangement, and singing and performing keyboards within the ska band Gangster Politics in senior high school. Watson remaining the music group after graduating and started to explore other styles of music, including electronica and ambient. He released Waterproof9 in 2001, an experimental music accompaniment to an image publication by Brigitte Henry entitled Waterproof. In 2002, after coming back from a vacation to Vietnam, he made a decision to take up a four-piece chamber pop group, attracting bassist Mishka Stein, drummer Robbie Kuster (both of whom he previously met at college or university), and previous Gangster Politics guitarist Simon Angell.
