Papa M

Biography

Known alternately as Papa M, Aerial M, M May be the Thirteenth Notice, and M, David Pajo offers woven in and away of a few of the most innovative bands within the Midwest while focusing on his personal innovative solo and side projects. Given birth to in Tx in 1968 to Fernando “Nanding” Pajo and Darlene Feldbusch, he grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a founding person in Slint, the Louisville-based slowcore music group that wowed critics from 1987 to 1991. Once they split up, he used a number of bands, like the Palace Brothers, Stereolab, the For Carnation, Ruler Kong, and Royal Trux. He was also a full-time person in Tortoise until 1998, reducing his involvement together to focus on the M tasks. The normal thread between every one of the M tasks is certainly Pajo’s expressive, almost eerie electric guitar playing. Backed sometimes by soft, wave-like rhythms as well as the hum of synths and keyboards, the music includes a mesmerizing quality to it while conveying pictures of great expanses of space. Significant tasks include a divide one with Monade (Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab) beneath the name M May be the Thirteenth Notice (on Palace Information in 1995), and three full-length albums in the Move Town label: the self-titled Aerial M, released in 1997, Post Global Music, released in 1999 as Aerial M, and Live from a Shark’s Cage, the very first record released beneath the Papa M name, in 1999. Nation/folk EP Sings implemented two years afterwards. Papa M released a string of singles within the 2000s along with the full-lengths Whatever, Mortal (2001) and Gap of Burning up Alms (2004), a assortment of non-album materials spanning many monikers. He turned towards the Pajo moniker for 2005’s self-titled record and the next year’s 1968. For this period, he performed in Dead Kid, a hard rock and roll/metal band offering members from the For Carnation, Parlour, and Shipping and delivery Information. He also participated in Slint’s periodic reunion travels and festival performances. In ’09 2009, he released Scream beside me, an record of acoustic addresses of Misfits tracks, as Pajo. He also used the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the It’s Blitz tour. He performed as Papa M on the ATP NY 2010 celebration. He also briefly became a member of Interpol being a touring member. Pajo continuing to take part in Slint’s sporadic reunions, but sometime in 2014, he dropped desire for playing music. In Feb of 2015, Pajo survived a suicide attempt after publishing a suicide notice on his blog page. The outpouring of support from his family members, friends, and followers urged him to persevere and finally resume producing music. His 1st recording as Papa M in over ten years, Highway Songs premiered by Pull Town in November 2016.

1 It's important to tell a story in a non-academic manner, to have a narrative which doesn't limit itself to fulfilling the basics: a narrative which, although familiar with the rules, can do without them. However, it is also important that it rings true within yourself, and also within what you are in the process of telling. You should never have a flat and ordinary relationship with the material you want to present.
2 Characters in my movies go through crises. Everybody in real life, and similarly movie characters, goes through crises. I am interested in describing those moments since they show one's true character; truth emerges during a crisis.
