Blessed in Mantua in 1956, Paolino Dalla Porta initial studied electric guitar, but by the finish from the ’70s he was dynamic being a bassist over the country wide jazz scene. Functioning as an associate of some essential groups within the Milan region (D.O.M. Alia Orchestra, Nexus), his solid support and melodic sense was popular by pianist Arrigo Cappelletti, saxophonist Claudio Fasoli, and vocalist Tiziana Ghiglioni. Since 1988, he provides led his very own quartet which may be heard over the Splasc(h) discharge Canguri Urbani. Dalla Porta became perhaps one of the most internationally known Italian music artists, touring the U.S. and Australia using the Far Away Influx project — motivated by Sardinian music and including Lester Bowie — and touring French Polinesia with Alain Brunet in 1995. His long-standing cooperation with exceptional pianist Stefano Battaglia led to a string of CDs of varied motivation: playing Costs Evans compositions with drummer Aldo Romano (Splasc[h], two CDs 1992/1993), primary music with Kenny Wheeler and Larry Elgart (Stories, Soul Take note 1993), and openly improvising with French violinist Dominique Pifarely (Triplicity, Dischi Della Quercia 1993) and United kingdom free of charge drummer Tony Oxley (Sulphur, Splasc[h] 1993). With drummer Fabrizio Sferra, he documented several CDs focused on modern jazz repertoire offering compositions by Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Egberto Gismonti, Charlie Haden, Steve Swallow, and much more (The Publication of Jazz, Symphonia 2000); in addition they keep a trio workshop for youthful piano trios in Siena. His solid, muscular phrasing and his melodic design are spotlighted in his group providing, Esperanto (Splasc[h], 1996) with Riccardo Luppi on sax and flute, and within an uncommon duo with reed participant Tino Tracanna, Nudes (Splasc[h], 1999). Like a composer he developed delicate melodies abundant with inflections from globe music, and all of the atmosphere inspired from the broadly different improvising varieties of the two wind flow players may be the best proof Dalla Porta’s versatility and musicality.
