Palehound may be the lo-fi indie rock and roll task of Boston-based vocalist/songwriter and guitarist Ellen Kempner. Kempner found music early, composing her first tracks at age ten. Citing affects like Elliott Smith, Angel Olsen, and Kim Offer, her tracks are confessional and frequently caustic having a wry, offbeat advantage. While learning music at New York’s Sarah Lawrence University, she released her debut EP, Bent Toenail, on Exploding in Audio Information. A quirky mixture of grunge-folk and ’90s-affected indie, the discharge garnered some hype and Kempner ultimately fallen out of college to target her attempts on songwriting and documenting Palehound’s 1st full-length. Dealing with maker Gabe Polish (Wye Oak, Speedy Ortiz) and a recently minted rhythm portion of drummer Jesse Weiss and bassist Nick Koechel, Kempner documented her 1st LP, Dry Meals, that was released in the summertime of 2015 by Heavenly Information. After switching to Polyvinyl in early 2017, Palehound adopted up with A LOCATION I’ll Always Proceed, a reflective recording about like and loss.
