Alongside Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanés was among the essential numbers in Cuba’s nueva trova popular-song movement from the past due ’60s; sponsored by Fidel Castro’s federal government, the collective of nueva trova music artists were essentially likely to reconfigure and revise traditional Cuban folk musics for the country’s new, contemporary, post-revolutionary culture. Milanés obtained renown for his extremely poetic lyrics and soft yet emotional performing, becoming perhaps one of the most well-known and reputed Cuban music artists and songwriters from the past due 20th hundred years, and launching a hefty amount of records. He’s a controversial shape for some — exiles despise his staunch support of Castro, while some criticize his musical forays into sentimental, orchestrated jazz-pop — but his position among the most significant links between traditional and modern Cuban music provides remained practically unassailable in to the new millennium.
