Ov Hell

Just one more Norwegian black steel supergroup — or super-duo, since it were — Ov Hell was founded in ’09 2009 by Oslo-based vocalist Shagrath (true name Stian Tomt Thoresen) of Dimmu Borgir and Bergen-residing bass participant Ruler ov Hell (Tom Cato Visnes), later of Gorgoroth (and an associate of many various other groupings). Having lately suffered the dual setback of shedding legal usage of the Gorgoroth name to previously ousted guitarist Infernus as well as the expected “pension” of previous partner in criminal offense Gaahl, King discovered himself in ownership of some leftover tune ideas which were duly finished in cooperation with Shagrath, hence spawning Ov Hell. After they were prepared to enter the studio room, Shagrath and Ruler settled for only the best with regards to program players, recruiting guitarists Teloch (1349, Orcustus, etc.) and Arve Isdal (Enslaved, Audrey Horne, etc.), plus drummer Frost (aka Kjetil Vidar Haraldstad; Maintain of Kalessin, Gorgoroth, Satyricon, 1349, etc.). Ov Hell’s debut record, The Underworld Routine, premiered in early 2010 through Indie Recordings and showcased an interesting mixture of its designers’ past encounters across dark metal’s most primitive and enhanced extremes.
