Students of piano with Friedrich Wilhelm Grund and Jakob Schmitt, Otto Goldschmidt later on studied among the initial pupils in the Leipzig Conservatory with Mendelssohn, von Bulow, and Hauptmann. He proved helpful in Hamburg, playing and teaching, and journeyed to Paris, where he hoped to review with Chopin. This having failed, Goldschmidt transferred to London, where he previously some achievement as the organist for just two churches near Wimbledon. He fulfilled and journeyed with Jenny Lind, whom he wedded (1852) and resolved with in London in 1858. Goldschmidt’s founding from the London Bach Choir was probably his most significant contribution to the annals of music. The compositions that he have scored are the oratorio “Ruth” (constructed for Lind), music, chamber music, and a piano concerto.
