Otolithen

Otolithen is a duo formed in 1993 simply by Päd Conca of Switzerland and Dirk Bruinsma of HOLLAND. Conca plays electric powered bass, a homemade string device, results and foot-activated percussion, while Bruinsma sings and has electric powered guitars, soprano saxophone and foot-triggered percussion. Conca and Bruinsma make use of prepared equipment and an array of results. Their compositions show rhythmic difficulty, and range between sensitive melodies to loud sonic assaults. Otolithen released an recording in Germany on the amf label in 1995. Their second launch, S.O.D., premiered by Cuneiform in 1997. Päd Conca performed in the jazz/thrash music group Lougaroo for five years, touring European countries and playing on the recording in 1990. Following the dissolution of Lougaroo, he performed single and released four albums in European countries beneath the name Clee. Conca in addition has done music for theatre and movies. Dirk Bruinsma takes on bass and baritone saxophone for the Dutch group Blast, which he co-founded in 1989. He spent some time working with Evan Parker, Fred Frith, George Lewis, Tim Hodgkinson and Barry Man.
