Osymyso

b. Mark Nicholson, Britain. On his debut, THANKS FOR VISITING The Palindrome, Osymyso drew on well-known lifestyle – inane kids’s tv presenters, quiz present hosts and easy hearing LPs – as test fodder for his great, gleeful electronica. Partly sharing looks with Mr. Scruff and folks Like Us, Nicholson organized these soundbites into funny, cool lower and paste collages which were underscored by way of a convincing feeling of absurdity. The record’s stand-out monitor, ‘A Pet! A Panic WITHIN A Pagoda’, also had a humor, faux news record narrative which was witty and incisive more than enough to bring modern media beliefs under scrutiny. Together with Richard X as well as the Freelance Hellraiser, Nicholson is among the more intriguing performers creating sample-heavy music dubbed ‘bootlegs’ or ‘bastard pop’ ? that’s, unofficial remixes or lower and paste recordings that blatantly flout the laws and regulations of copyright. Whereas many ‘bootlegs’ splice simply the vocal of an individual monitor using the instrumental of another, Osymyso’s Intro-inspection EP commingled the introductions from 101 well-known tracks right into a nine-minute bastard pop epic which was a de facto background of well-known music. The London-based DJ provides also set a disagreement between characters through the cleaning soap opera EastEnders to big beats for ‘Pat ‘n’ Peg’. ‘I’m not really attacking pop or ethnic appearance, ’ Osymyso informed Record Collector publication of these masterpieces, ‘I’m celebrating what I observe as the greatest elements of it. I really like a well-crafted pop track, from Motown to PWL, and what I really do help it put on current DJ tradition slightly less difficult. Also, it’s fun.’ Amusingly, Osymyso offers even been castigated around the pages of the tabloid newspapers for his selection of samples: when Nicholson appropriated the tone of voice of Tourette’s Symptoms sufferer John Davidson (from a BBC documentary concerning the affliction) and coalesced the four-letter outbursts right into a pop monitor, the Daily Record raged contrary to the DJ/producer beneath the headline ‘Tourette’s Singdrome: Fury As Television Outburst APPLIED TO Web Monitor’.
