Orville Dorp

Politically incorrect, foot-stomping cannabis evangelism — that’s Orville Dorp the bottom line is. A Vancouver, BC quintet (Smilin’ Jack port Smith, Tom Lavin, Glen Hendrickson, Al Jacobs, and Shelly Kantrow), this business kept a refreshingly irreverent attitude towards pop music, understanding complete well that their freshman work — the EP solitary, Orville Dorp Sings “Jesus Cannabis” and Additional Aged Favorites (O.D. Information), will be their last. Four-fifths from the band have emerged frolicking beneath hemp leaves within the picture sleeve. In the coat, the pot-inspired madness proceeds. Two 33 1/3 songs grace part one — Smith’s “Jesus Cannabis” and Lavin’s “Gutter Rat Guy” — as the second option slice reappears at 45 rpm on part two. Improbably, “Jesus Cannabis” actually is a well-crafted folk tune — an interesting ditty with amusing lyrics. The disc’s real availability? It had been offered accessible in Large Times publication, but outside Vancouver, it loved a restricted distribution. Fortunately, it had been resurrected within the Vancouver Record Collector’s Association 1983 compilation Background of Vancouver Stone, Volume 3. Look for and ye shall think it is there. Addendum: Glen Hendrickson also do stints with Vancouver rings Mock Duck and United Empire Loyalists.
