Born Sept 22, 1934, to a Milanese family, Italian singer Ornella Vanoni spent the majority of her twenties alternating between theater (her debut is at 1957 with Federico Zardi’s We Giacobini) and music. She began by performing “le canzoni della mala,” or music about the underworld, but after conference Gino Paoli in 1960 (with whom she composed “Senza Great,” among her biggest strikes) she started exploring the greater sentimental noises of pop.
