Fronted by Solomon Linda, the initial Evening Parrots pioneered an extremely influential design that became referred to as ‘mbube.’ Mbube organizations wore outfits, danced perfectly carried out methods, and (their determining characteristic) offered a falsetto man lead backed with a four-part all-male bass tranquility. Their first strike, “Mbube” (The Lion), became the foundation for just two American strike singles, “Wimoweh” from the Weavers (1950) and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” from the Tokens (1961), both which still wthhold the Mbube design. “Mbube” was the 1st recording within the continent of Africa to market 100,000 copies. This event really marked the start of Zulu a cappella like a musical pressure to become reckoned with.
