The North Nation Singers became First Caste in 1966 when Graham Bruce, Joseph Cavender and Bliss Mackie recruited Dixie Lee Innis. The group documented their first one in 1968, but 1969’s “One Tin Soldier” became popular in their indigenous Canada and America. An record from the same name made an appearance in 1970, but First Caste split up in 1971. Innis continued to record many singles through the ’70s being a solo act.
