Opossom

Following a 2010 breakup of ecstatic New Zealand-via-Portland art punks the Mint Chicks, former lead singer Kody Nielson released Opossom as a car for his single compositions. While still playing drums in his sibling (and in addition previous Mint Chicks member) Ruban Nielson’s music group Unfamiliar Mortal Orchestra, Kody go about composing, producing, carrying out, and documenting an album’s well worth of new materials even more darkly moody and lounge-leaning than his previous work. Through the development of his fresh solo effort, Nielson was also operating like a collaborator and back-up musician for onetime major-label pop celebrity Bic Runga, so when the time arrived for Opossom to changeover from bedroom task to live music group, he enlisted Runga as vocalist and multi-instrumentalist and curved out the live music group with previous Mint Chicks member Michael Logie on bass. The group’s debut LP, Electric powered Hawaii, saw launch 1st on Dark Summer season Records/CRS Information in Apr of 2012, but quickly saw re-release burning Information in August from the same year.
