The spark for On Fillmore were only available in 2000 when Jim O’Rourke utilized bassist Darin Grey and drummer Glenn Kotche as his rhythm section to get a performance in the MELTDOWN Festival in London. O’Rourke, who once performed in Gastr del Sol, was with Sonic Youngsters at that time, and following the display he came back to touring with them. While Grey and Kotche journeyed back again to their particular homes on the transatlantic flight, they truly became well acquainted and produced plans to start out an experimental standup bass and percussion duo. With both people amply trained in post-rock and jazz, both improvised their 1st documenting session. It had been not broadly released, but using the tires in movement, On Fillmore mapped out a organized debut, that was released on Quakebasket in 2001. Soon after, the two proceeded to go their separate methods. Grey visited St. Louis to try out bass in Grand Ulena and Kotche became a member of Wilco in Chicago, right before the documenting of Yankee Resort Foxtrot. In 2004, Kotche and Grey reunited to create Sleeps with Fishes, a far more ambient release, filled with field recordings. A statewide tour adopted soon after, but apart from a few periodic shows, their commitments to additional tasks limited their period together. However, over another five years, they made up soundtracks for just two J.T. Petty movies, and come up with a 4th full-length, titled Prolonged Vacation, in ’09 2009.
