Psy trance duo from Hamburg, Germany, Ololiuqui contains skilled players Volker Koenig and Oliver Elschenbrioch, who began using a diverse background in rock and roll, reggae & blues and jumped off into digital music experimentation. Playing keyboards in rings llike HH Style, Neuwerk, Aspect and Tranceformation since 1984, they produced Ololiuqui in 1996 and instantly began documenting for Hamburg’s famed Goa label, Heart Zone. They are highlighted on three Heart Area compilations, Global Psychedelic Trance Comp. Vol. III and both amounts one and two of the Tathata compilations. Their name derives in the Mexican LSD-like medication Ololiuqui, that is produced from the seed products of a number of morning hours glories, which appears appropriate, provided their psychedlic design. Their initial self-titled record for Spirit Area, released in 1997, highlighted a reasonably traditional psy trance audio however when Eschenbrioch successfully retired in the band Koenig had taken Ololiuqui in broader directions, making the 1999 full-length, Valves, which, plus a solid trance primary highlighted funk, disco and home elements and gorgeous, operatic vocals.
