Biography
Olga Borodina is among the leading Russian operatic mezzo-sopranos. A superstar from the Kirov (Mariinsky) Opera, she actually is also in solid demand internationally. Her initial main placement was as an associate from the Kirov Firm in Leningrad, which contracted her as an ensemble soloist in 1987. (Because the town came back to its pre-Revolutionary name of St. Petersburg, the opera movie theater also re-took its previously name of Mariinsky, but continues to be well-known beneath the long-standing Kirov name.) She proved helpful her method through small mezzo-soprano parts until music movie director Valery Gergiev unexpectedly designated her to the best function of Marfa in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina. The fantastic acclaim she received on her behalf performance set up her as a respected singer with the business and drew worldwide attention. She got into the Rosa Ponselle International Competition. She gained the silver medal there, a success that released her international profession. This was accompanied by earning another main prize in the 1989 Barcelona Competition, confirming her developing international position. Her repertory is normally naturally strong within the main Russian mezzo-soprano assignments. Included in these are Pauline within the Queen of Spades, Marina in Boris Godunov, and leading parts in Prokofiev’s Battle and Tranquility, Prince Igor by her namesake Borodin, and Dargomïzhsky’s The Rock Guest. But she’s also sung Dalila in Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila, Carmen in Bizet’s opera, Marguerite in Berlioz’ Le Damnation de Faust, and in addition in Berlioz’ Roméo et Juliette and Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil. She’s sung in Salzburg, Covent Backyard in London, SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Paris Opera, as well as other main locations in Rome, Milan, Japan, Spain, and the uk. Her various other engagements included a Metropolitan Opera debut and an initial appearance on the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Her recordings consist of Prince Igor, Khovanshchina, Battle and Peace, as well as the Queen of Spades. As she actually is also a highly-regarded recital musician, she’s also released discs music and Lieder, including an all-Tchaikovsky melody recital.
