Ola Kvernberg

Norwegian violinist Ola Kvernberg began traditional studies like a six-year-old, but became strongly thinking about jazz by age 16. He shown an affinity for acoustic Continental jazz stylings ahead of beginning jazz research in the Trondheim Musikkonservatorium in 2001, collaborating (at age group 18) with Warm Golf club de Norvège guitarist Jimmy Rosenberg. Kvernberg documented and toured using the Warm Club for quite some time, and during his Musikkonservatorium years he also started issuing recordings under his personal name, including an eponymous recording on Warm Club Information in 2001 as well as the premiere recording from the Ola Kvernberg Trio, 2002’s Pet cats & Doug, also released by Warm Golf club. Upon completing his research in the Musikkonservatorium, the violinist proven his innovative jazz variety as an associate from the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, so when the 2000s advanced he continued carrying out and documenting along with his trio, liberating the Jazzland label recording Night Drivers in 2006 and Folk in ’09 2009. Kvernberg received his best acclaim up to now for his multifaceted function Liarbird, commissioned from the 2010 Trondheim Jazzfest and Moldejazz and premiered with an ensemble including U.S. saxophonist Joshua Redman. Another college student from the Trondheim Musikkonservatorium jazz system, Motorpsycho drummer Kenneth Kapstad, held Kvernberg at heart when assembling the Kenneth Kapstad Group to execute in the Trondheim Jazzfest (also this year 2010), and Kvernberg authorized on alongside keyboardist Erland Slettevoll, bassist Trond Frønes, and guitarist Actually Helte Hermansen. Subsequently placing to rest the idea that was a Kenneth Kapstad-led task, the quintet transformed its name to Grand General ahead of Rune Grammofon’s launch from the eponymously entitled debut recording Grand General in Feb 2013.
