Okko Kamu


The precocious son of the symphony twice bass player, Okko Kamu began his formal studies at age six. Primarily a violinist, he afterwards turned to performing and subsequently discovered himself the guts of world interest after winning initial prize within the initial Herbert von Karajan International Competition. Kamu’s planning had been comprehensive enough allowing him to make an impression co-workers, critics, and viewers in the many engagements that adopted. After research with Onni Suhonen in the Sibelius Academy, Kamu became a member of the Helsinki Youngsters Orchestra. From 1998 to 2001, Kamu was primary visitor conductor from the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. Soon after his achievement within the Karajan competition, Kamu started to record and continued to be a frequent existence in the documenting studio room. Among his previous discs of long lasting significance will be the Sibelius First and Third symphonies. He provides produced noteworthy recordings of Berwald, Grieg (Symphony in C minimal), and Sallinen. Kamu also led the premieres of Sallinen’s The Crimson Line (1978) as well as the King Runs Forth to France (1984). In ’09 2009, he was called the principle conductor from the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and his documented efforts were compensated using the Diapson D’Or prize for just two Naxos discs of Berwald’s functions. In March 2012, he executed Beethoven’s Fourth using the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, with Marc-André Hamelin on piano.
