Oficina de Cordas

A thrilling Brazilian vocal and instrumental ensemble, Oficina De Cordas focus on frevo, a music design that developed in Pernambuco within the 20s and 30s. Originally, the music was performed at carnivals and during road parades and was an auditory reaction to the radiant colour and pleasure of these events. Gradually, other components had been added that shown the everyday lives from the people, thus presenting introspection along with a heartfelt reaction to occasionally difficult lives. Both of these forms, frevo da rua and frevo da bloco, are always tightly from the town but through Oficina De Cordas it’s been heard and valued elsewhere as globe music grows its market. The ensemble documented an record for the Nimbus label in 1994.
