Odell Rand

Odell Rand was a Chicago-based clarinetist who also often played the Eb (instead of Bb) clarinet. An erratic participant who frequently slipped out of tune, Rand popped through to many small-group jazz and blues times in the 1930s. He’s most widely known for his use the Harlem Hamfats; additionally, he documented with Big Expenses Broonzy and caused Baby Dodds and Lil Armstrong for an interval in the 1950s. Although he led his personal music group (the Ebonites) for quite some time, Rand never documented as a innovator.
