Odean Pope

A fiery and frequently intense tenor saxophonist, Odean Pope was a significant member of Potential Roach’s quartet from 1979. Pope was raised in Philadelphia, had taken some essential musical lessons from Ray Bryant, and acquired short organizations with organist Jimmy McGriff and Artwork Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He 1st started teaming up with Roach in the past due ’60s, though it will be another 10 years before he became a normal section of his group. Pope led Catalyst, a music group that produced four records within the ’70s, and he come up with the Saxophone Choir in 1977.
