The loose collective of music artists, DJs, and producers composed of Nuspirit Helsinki produces a broad design of electronic jazz that transcends traditional stylistic boundaries. Founding users Tuomas Kallio and Hannu Nieminen (aka DJ Ender) enlisted assistance from keyboardist Kim Rantala (aka Kasio), Toni Rantanen (aka DJ Lil Tony), and Eppu Helle to accomplish the primary of Nuspirit Helsinki in 1998. Since that time, they have asked several vocalists and music artists — frequently percussionist Abdissa “Mamba” Assefa and vocalist Ona Kamu — to donate to the group’s recordings, that have been released by such leading electronic jazz brands as Jazzanova-Compost and Assistance. The group’s music is really as much jazz since it is definitely dance, built from mainly live instruments however informed greatly by modern creation technology (considering that all five from the collective’s founding users — Kallio, Nieminen, Rantala, Rantanen, and Helle — are suppliers). Following many 12″ recordings for labels Jazzanova-Compost and Assistance, plus a compilation providing for Ubiquity (“Diana Recreation area Evenings,” New Latinaires, Vol. 2), Nuspirit Helsinki documented its self-titled debut record for Assistance in 2002, which introduced the group to American listeners not really yet acquainted with the Finnish supergroup. 2008 noticed the group handpicking a variety of modern Scandinavian and north European rings for WELL KNOWN Factors, an eclectic combine CD that didn’t feature any materials by Nuspirit Helsinki itself.
