Nicola Roberts

With her pale skin, striking red hair, and quiet personality, Nicola Roberts might have been the less tabloid-friendly person in Girls Aloud, but because of her songwriting skills, eclectic taste, and effortlessly cool demeanor, her solo career was a lot more interesting than bandmates Nadine Coyle and Cheryl Cole’s. Given birth to in Runcorn, Cheshire in 1985, Roberts started singing at age 11, went to her regional dance college, and created her own lady music group, the Five Musketeers, before auditioning for the ITV skill display Popstars: The Competitors in 2002. Although she originally didn’t make it to the live phases, she was drafted in as an alternative when fellow contestant Nicola Ward drawn out, eventually completing second and generating a location in the group that became Ladies Aloud.
