Nicholas Hoffman

Nicholas Hoffman, a Chicago local, continues to be heavily influenced by a number of the longtime jazz denizens from the Windy Town like Von Freeman and Bunky Green, who offer their own taste towards the jazz music they are playing for quite some time. A good section of Hoffman’s formal musical education also is at the Windy Town. He examined with citizen guitarist Ernie Denov and pianist Willie Pickens and went to DePaul School before going to Boston’s Berklee University of Music in 1976. His initial gig is at Chicago in 1977 along with his music group dubbed Enamon, called after the traditional Dizzy Gillespie tune. The group included M-base icon, Steve Coleman. Today working out from the Northwest, his two self-produced folders reveal his commitment towards the Hammond B3 body organ. His first Compact disc, Nick’s Tips, features Barney McClure and his second, Jazzy’s Dance, provides Joey DeFrancesco because the co-star. This mix of electric guitar and B3 brings back again images of equivalent unforgettable instrumental pairings from days gone by like Eddie Lockjaw Davis/Shirley Scott and Offer Green/Larry Young. Using the body organ being this important component to his method of jazz, Hoffman’s playing stresses the blues impact of jazz, plus a nod to tempo & blues. Hoffman works together with his group at jazz locations within the Northwest, creates concerts, and provides personal lessons. He provides created concerts honoring the music of Charlie Parker and Mls Davis because of their 75th and 70th birthdays, respectively.
