New York Port Authority

Named following the largest bus terminal in the U.S., NY Port Expert (NYPA) was an obscure funk/spirit/disco music group that was mixed up in NY in the past due ’70s. The six-man music group authorized with Holland-Dozier-Holland’s Invictus label in 1977, when its users included vocalist/bassist Reginald A. Dark brown, guitarist Melvin Miller Jr., trumpeter/percussionist Rodney J. Dark brown, keyboardist/trombonist Stafford M. Floyd, alto saxophonist John O. Hargrove, and drummer Monwell E. Lowndes. That 12 months, Invictus released NYPA’s debut recording, Three Thousand Kilometers from Home, that was made by Brian Holland and included the solitary “I Don’t Need to Function Today.” The LP didn’t sell, and in 1978, NYPA split up without ever documenting a second recording.
