New and Used

An organization which attemptedto find common floor between your polar opposites of notated and improvised music, the brand new York-based quintet New & Used marked a convergence of players from intriguingly diverse backgrounds. Trumpeter Dave Douglas was the first choice from the Tiny Bell Trio and an associate of John Zorn’s Masada, and used Tag Dresser, Don Byron, and Dr. Nerve; bassist Kermit Driscoll was the longtime bass participant in the Expenses Frisell Music group and performed with Zorn and Wayne Horvitz; violinist Tag Feldman used the Billy Hart Sextet, the Ray Anderson Sextet, and Anthony Davis’ Epistime; drummer/percussionist Tom Rainey documented with Kenny Warner, Tag Helias, as well as the Fred Hersch Group; and saxophonist Andy Laster led his personal group, Hydra, and was an associate of Lyle Lovett’s Huge Band.
