A collaboration between Super Furry Animal’s Gruff Rhys and left-field hip-hop producer Boom Bip — who initial worked together in 2005 when Rhys added vocals to “Do’s & Don’ts” from Boom Bip’s Blue Eyed in debt Room — Neon Neon play warm, dancey music informed by ’80s brand-new wave, Prince, and Kraftwerk, amongst others, while also contacting the contributions of artists like Spank Rock, Yo Majesty, Har Mar Superstar, as well as the Magic Amounts to complete their sound. They started documenting their debut record in the summertime of 2006, playing a finalized edition of it in a CMJ party the next season, and around once the very first two singles, “Technique for Deal with” and “Raquel,” had been released. However, the ultimate product, Metal Style (that was designed to revolve around the life span from the carmaker John DeLorean), didn’t turn out until March 2008 on Lex Information; it was eventually in the shortlist for your year’s Mercury Award.
