Natural Calamity

The Shibuya-kei trio referred to as Normal Calamity is really a little bit of an anachronism in comparison to others within the rich Japan pop scene seen as a Cornelius and Pizzicato Five. The earthy trip-hop blues made by Shunji Mori and Kuni Sugimoto, plus American Stephanie Heasley’s countrified vocals can be found in designated comparison to Tokyo’s many French/Brazilian/exotica aficionados. Mori and Sugimoto fulfilled in the first ’90s, and created their first record Dawn within the Valley for Document Information, possessed by Toshio Nakanishi of Like T.K.O. ALLOW IT DROP and Sundance implemented, along with the cooperation LP Band of Gods, documented with Nakanishi and Masayaki Kudo (who type fifty percent of the trip-hop quartet Skylab). After documenting in London and Spain being a trio, Normal Calamity agreed upon to the Idyllic/Toy’s Manufacturer label and released Andulucian Moon. Hyped in japan press, the group gained American distribution with the Dirt Brothers’ Nickelbag label for his or her second LP, 1998’s Peach Mind. The unavoidable remix album adopted, with efforts by Share, Hausen & Walkman, the Dust Brothers, Buffalo Child and Kool Keith.
