Nando Carneiro

Geraldo Carneiro’s sibling, former founder, and person in A Barca perform Sol, Nando Carneiro set up a reputation as an instrumentalist, having been performing regularly because the ’70s with Egberto Gismonti. Other performers he spent some time working with are André Geraissati (Understanding), Trilok Gurtu (The Glance), John McLaughlin, and John Scofield. Also a composer, Carneiro composed (with John Neschling) the soundtrack for the film O Beijo da Mulher Aranha, released over the LP Kiss from the Spider Girl (1985), together with his very own single albums. His creative profession started in the group A Barca perform Sol, which he was among the founders. Combined with the group’s profession albums, A Barca also supported Olívia Byington on her behalf 1st LP, Corra o Risco (1978). Through the group, he fulfilled Egberto Gismonti, of whom all the band’s members had been admirers; in the same period, he became a normal collaborator on Gismonti’s albums and live shows. Carneiro began his solo profession in 1983 using the LP Violão, made by Gismonti and released in 1991 in European countries. Carneiro won 1st place in the Concorrência Fiat competition using the piece “Operating-system Povos da Floresta.” Two of his tracks were extracted from his LP Bestázio and included on the compilation Compact disc Modern Instrumental Music from Brasil, released in the U.S. In duo with Zeca Assumpção, Carneiro documented the Compact disc Catavento live in the Centro Cultural Banco perform Brasil (Rio). In 1994, he performed in the Heineken Event (Palace, São Paulo) associated Gismonti and John McLaughlin. In 1999, he performed in the Heineken Concerts (Alfa Genuine, São Paulo), associated John Scofield with Zeca Assumpção (bass), Lelo Nazário (keyboards), Caíto Marcondes (percussion), and Jaques Morelenbaum (cello).
