Nabil Totah

b. Nabil Marshall Totah, 5 Apr 1930, Ramallah, Jordan. As a kid, ‘Nobby’ Totah performed violin and piano. Relocating to the united states in 1944, he analyzed political science before making a decision on a profession in music. Taking on the bass in 1953, just like he involved in military services, he performed in army rings and with Hampton Hawes and Toshiko Akiyoshi. These engagements happened while he was in Japan and on his go back to the USA the next year, he performed briefly with Charlie ‘Parrot’ Parker and began lengthy intermittent spells in little organizations led by with Gene Krupa and by Johnny Smith. Also through the 50s, Totah used an array of performers including Eddie Costa, Tal Farlow, Bobby Jaspar, Herbie Mann, Zoot Sims, George Wallington and Phil Woods. Through the following decade, he worked well in rings led by Benny Goodman, Bobby Hackett, Maximum Kaminsky, Lee Konitz and Hazel Scott. Concurrent with one of these actions, Totah also led his personal small organizations using as sidemen a recognized array of music artists, including Pepper Adams and Horace Parlan. A good and dependable accompanist, Totah offers constantly subordinated his function to the desires from the music artists he supports and it has appropriately built an extremely high reputation inside the jazz fraternity.
