My Initial Earthquake’s daring, synth-riddled indie pop, rooted in Mates of State’s angularity and Of Montreal’s multi-instrumental jumpiness, locations them in the same music territory as the Kills, the Noises, as well as the Blow. Vocalist Rebecca Bortman (previously of Snow Queen) and bassist/keyboardist Chad Thornton (who got previously performed in a few rings with We Are Researchers’ Keith Murray) 1st met while these were college students at Carnegie Mellon. They began collaborating on some tracks in nov 2006, and developed the band’s name when an earthquake strike during their 1st rehearsal (it had been Bortman’s 1st earthquake, evidently). Drummer Andre Salcido was brought in to the collapse via Craigslist around that point, and guitarist David Low fat was induced board just like the group was gearing up to lay out the tracks for his or her 1st EP. That disk, the appropriately called Tremors, arrived in 2008. My First Earthquake’s debut full-length, Downstairs, was slated for launch in the summertime of 2009.
