Muckram Wakes

This largely traditional folk UK unit specialized in songs, and later, dance music from the Midlands. Created in 1970, the initial line-up comprised Roger Watson (b. 7 Feb 1946, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Britain; concertina, tuba, melodeon), Helen Wainwright (b. 16 Might 1951, Marchington, Staffordshire, Britain; harmonium, whistle, piano, bouzouki) – Helen and Roger wedded in 1972 – and John Tams (b. 16 Feb 1949, Derbyshire, Britain; fiddle, banjo, concertina). They produced their debut in 1973 having a Map Of Derbyshire, including a small number of Watson and Tams originals on the largely traditional arranged. Tams left to become listed on the Albion Music group later in the entire year. Soon later on John Adams (fiddle, banjo, trombone) and Suzie Adams (drums), had been put into the line-up. With this file format they continuing until 1980, attaining much respect in the folk circuit. In addition they contributed towards the short-lived 11-piece New Success Music group, and their highly-regarded 1978 discharge YET ANOTHER Dance & After that. In 1980 an entire modification of line-up, as a result of personal and professional break-ups, intended that the machine comprised John Adams, Keith Kendrick (concertina), Barry Coope (vocals) and Ian Carter. This line-up just lasted for some time before disbanding. Roger Watson also performed and documented with American banjo participant and vocalist Debbie McClatchy, and he also caused Robb Johnson prior to going to become movie director of TAPS (Traditional Arts Tasks), in Berkshire. In the first 90s, Helen Watson (afterwards Hockenhull) continued to form Sophistication Records with Maggie Boyle and Lynda Hardcastle (ex-Mountain Ash Music group).
