Mose Vinson

A Memphis piano institution for over fifty percent a hundred years, Mose Vinson recorded a small number of unreleased sides for Sunlight Information in 1953 (subsequently liberated by Carry Family members) and did spread session work with Sam Phillips aswell. Vinson started playing piano as a kid within the Mississippi Delta, primarily playing in his regional chapel. By his teenagers, he had started playing jazz and blues. In 1932, he shifted to Memphis, Tennessee, where he performed local juke bones and parties through the entire ’30s and ’40s. In the first ’50s, Sam Phillips got Vinson accompany several Sun blues performers, most notably Wayne Natural cotton in 1954. Throughout that period, Phillips also got Vinson lower some tracks, however they continued to be unreleased before ’80s. For another three years, Vinson continued to execute at regional Memphis clubs. Nevertheless, he didn’t play as much as he do in the last 2 decades. In the first ’80s, the guts for Southern Folklore employed Vinson to execute at special social festivals, in addition to local universities. For another 2 decades, he performed concerts and educational and social festivals from the CSF. Mose Vinson passed away in Memphis from diabetes on November 30, 2002.
