Moreau, formerly referred to as Cousteau, debuted in 1999 using a self-released, eponymous work showcasing their chocolate-smooth mixture of Bacharach-style songwriting with modernist flourishes of groove and consumer electronics. The brainchild of experienced songwriter and piano guy Davey Ray Moor, Cousteau also included lead vocalist Liam McKahey, guitarist Robin Dark brown, bassist Joe Peet (who also added violin), and drummer Craig Vear. The debut produced quite a mix within the band’s London house base, and shortly the independent work was found by Hand. Cousteau fell stateside in 2000, as well as the combo ruffled feathers using a membership tour, come vital appreciation of the solid Scott Walker, Roxy Music, and Nick Cave affects, and short radio play at adult choice and modern rock and roll outlets friendly towards the combo’s burnished audio.
