Moonsorrow

Created in 1995 by cousins Henri (guitar/keyboards/vocals) and Ville Sorvali (bass/vocals), Finland’s Moonsorrow tracked a path much like that blazed by their countrymen Amorphis by merging death and black color metal with weighty doses of atmosphere and Finnish folk traditions; but theirs was probably a far more ambitious and epic strategy. Several demos, including 1996’s “Thorns of Snow,” 1997’s “Metsä” (indicating “Forest”), and 1999’s “Tämä Ikuinen Talvi” (“This Eternal Winter season”) laid the groundwork for his or her first recording, Suden Uni (“A Wolf’s Desire”), which also presented drummer Marko Tarvonen. New users Mitja Harvilahti (acoustic guitar) and Lord Eurén (live keyboards) had been soon put into the lineup, and, after reissuing their second demonstration, Tämä Ikuinen Talvi, on Compact disc in 2001, Moonsorrow capped off the entire year with another full-length entitled Voimasta Ja Kunniasta (“Of Power and Honour”) — their 1st for fresh label Spikefarm. Their finest effort however, the recording solidified the group’s standing up as best purveyors of Scandinavian dream metal and arranged the stage for another respectable opus in the form of 2003’s acclaimed Kivenkantaja (“Stonebearer”), in addition to Spikefarm’s reissue of the Suden Uni debut. Verisäkeet, the band’s 4th studio long participant, found its way to 2005, accompanied by the critically acclaimed Viides luku – Hävitetty in 2007. 2011 noticed the discharge of Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa, and in 2016 the music group decreased their seventh full-length outing, Jumalten aika.
