Monte Dunn

Monte Dunn was among a small band of guitar players who also supplied music accompaniment for Greenwich Village-based singer-songwriters from the 1960s. Although he by no means attained the levels of Danny Kalb, who proceeded to go from burning Phil Ochs and Judy Collins to leading important folk-rock group, the Blues Task, and John Herald from the Greenbrier Kids, who documented with Joan Baez, Dunn were able to play on some extremely important recordings. A sideman on Ian and Sylvia’s albums, North Trip in 1964 and MORNING HOURS Rain, a 12 months later, Dunn obtained additional notoriety when the then-married Canadian folksingers attributed their edition of the original folksong, “Nancy Whiskey”, to him and folksinger Logan British. He continued to seem on Cher’s recording, All I must say i WISH TO ACCOMPLISH in 1965, the debut self-titled recording by Dylan pal, David Blue in 1966, Buffy Sainte-Marie’s Open fire & Fleet & Candlelight in 1967 and Peter, Paul and Mary’s Past due Once again in 1968. Whenever a duo recording, documented with vocalist Karen Cruz, in 1969, didn’t generate much product sales, Dunn came back to studio function, subsequently showing up on albums by Tim Hardin, Richie Havens and Fred Neil.
