Los Angeles-based option rock clothing Monster in the device were formed like a creative automobile for vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and keyboardist Shannon Crawford. His earlier group, Cellophane, authorized to Virgin in 1997, but Crawford, disillusioned using the market, remaining the group to spotlight his painting. Motivation reasserted itself musically in 2006 and Crawford recruited drummer Josh Freese, violin participant Imani Coppola, ex-Cellophane/Puddle of Mudd bassist Douglas Ardito, and longtime friend and Korn guitarist Wayne “Munky” Shaffer for his newest task, the atmospheric Monster in the device. The producing Butterfly Pinned found its way to 2007 on Shaffer’s Emotional Syphon label.
