Mono/Poly

Charles Dickerson, aka Mono/Poly, was one of the numbers who emerged from Los Angeles’ community of instrumental hip-hop suppliers — including contacts using the city’s Low End Theory golf club nights, aswell as Soaring Lotus — through the 2000s. Originally from Bakersfield, Dickerson produced his first techniques with 12″ singles and EPs on brands such as for example Circulations, Encounters, and Fat Town. As Monopoly, he remixed Soaring Lotus’ “Melt!” in 2008. Pursuing his first recording, Paramatma, released on Tasteful Licks this year 2010, he was put into Soaring Lotus’ Brainfeeder roster. Dickerson debuted there in 2011 with Manifestations, an EP that showcased his alternately sparse and cluttered method of beat-making with an off-center love of life — from pitched-up Ice-T and General public Enemy examples to track game titles like “Punch the Troll in the Throat.” After he added to labelmate Thundercat’s 2013 recording Apocalypse, he released Golden Skies, dreamier and even more melodic than his debut, in 2014.
