Monk & Canatella

The name utilized by Bristol, England-based experimental hip-hop duo, Simon Russell and Jim Johnston. Close friends from the Bristol picture’s darlings, Portishead, their sound is definitely a similar cross of turntablism and much more traditional instrumentation reflecting the twin musical obsessions of Johnston (indie) and Russell (hip-hop). The duo authorized to the Bristol dance label Glass Of Tea, debuting with 1995’s well received Take flight Angling EP. After two additional singles, ‘I Can Drinking water My Vegetation’ and ‘Who’s Who?’, they released the eclectic Treatment LOCALLY in 1997.
