b. Memoryón Quian, Manguito, Matanzas Province, Cuba. Entitled ‘Un Unico’ (THE INITIAL), this Afro-Cuban vocalist, composer, music group leader, manufacturer Monguito, sings in an average Cuban design with an immediately recognizable, nasal tone of voice. He performed with several rings in Cuba, and Mexico, where he also proved helpful in three movies. In 1962, Monguito Un Unico relocated to NY and initially joined up with Orquesta Broadway. The next year he produced his record debut with Arsenio Rodríguez. In 1964, Monguito distributed business lead vocals with Pete ‘Un Conde’ Rodríguez and sang coro (chorus) on Pacheco ON THE N.Y. Globe’s Good by, Johnny Pacheco. Pete departed and Monguito became co-lead vocalist with Chivirico Dávila on Pacheco’s Pacheco Te Invita A Bailar and Viva Africa. In 1966, Monguito made an appearance in the Tico All Superstars’ Descargas ON THE Community Gate – Live albums. He sessioned with Chivirico on Herbie Mann’s Latin Mann, and highlighted on Larry Harlow’s Bajándote, performing the hit name monitor, ‘Cienfuegos’. Monguito proceeded to go single in 1967 with Pacheco Presents Monguito, and released an additional three albums as much as 1971. He sang business lead on ‘Me Gusto Un Son’ using the Fania All Celebrities on the debut Live IN THE Crimson Garter, Vol. 1 in 1968. His 1979 launch, Yo No Soy Mentiroso, made by Roberto Torres, proceeded to go gold. It had been the third recording released on the brand new SAR label, founded by Sergio Bofill, Andriano García and Torres. Torres created a highly effective house style customized for the Western African and French-speaking Caribbean marketplaces. He extended Cuban child montunos and guajiras, frequently using older Cuban requirements, with a lot of areas for soloing. Monguito toured Africa in 1980, and documented as a business lead vocalist and musical movie director for the Ivory Coast-based Sacodis label. Monguito paralleled the SAR audio with Sacodis and utilized many leading New York-based music artists for the classes, including pianist/arranger Alfredo Valdés Jnr., who was simply SAR’s home arranger; violinists Alfredo De La Fé and Félix ‘Pupi’ Legarreta; vocalist Adalberto Santiago; saxophonist/flautist Mario Rivera. Torres created his 1982 and 1984 albums within the Toboga label, that was a stablemate of SAR. In 1985, Monguito released Yo Soy La Meta on Caiman Information, that was a successor of SAR.
