Mongezi Feza

Mongezi Feza began performing the trumpet extremely early, and by his teenagers was already performing professionally in groupings, getting involved in the very well-known jazz tournaments. Chris McGregor discovered him there and invited him to become listed on the Blue Records; together he fled the united states in 1964, playing initial on the Antibes Jazz Celebration and in Zurich, London, and Copenhagen. Feza was an associate from the ensembles McGregor led and used Dudu Pukwana in his groupings Assagai and Spear in the first ’70s. In Flute Music (Caroline 1975), he has flute and percussion on four first compositions, like the gorgeous “Sondela.” He was noticed on Keith Tippett’s large Centipede (Septober Energy, RCA 1971); with avant-rock’s Robert Wyatt (Ruth Is usually Stranger Than Richard, Virgin 1975), and in Henry Cow with Fred Frith (Eager Straights and In Compliment of Learning, Virgin 1974). In 1972, Johnny Dyani asked Feza to become listed on the trio Xaba, with Turkish percussionist Okay Temiz. Feza documented one of is own last classes (Gemstone Express, Independence 1977) with Dudu Pukwana. He passed on in 1975, from a combined mix of anxious disorder and neglected pneumonia; his close friends and colleagues thought that his issues were not used seriously enough in the London medical center.
